ExxonMobil PNG Ltd. (EMPNG) let a $200-million contract to John Wood Group Ltd. (Wood) for construction services supporting the PNG LNG project in Papua New Guinea.

The 5-year contract covers brownfield project delivery across the Hides gas conditioning plant, the LNG plant at Caution Bay, about 700 km of pipeline network, and associated well pads and flowlines, Wood said Sept. 13.

Steve Nicol, chief operating officer of operations at Wood, said the company has supported ExxonMobil PNG's operations on the PNG LNG project for more than a decade.

EMPNG operates the PNG LNG project on behalf of venture partners Santos Ltd., Kumul Petroleum Holdings Ltd., Mineral Resources Development Co. Ltd., and Eneos Xplora.

Natural gas produced from well sites in Hela Province is treated at the Hides gas conditioning plant and transported by onshore and offshore pipeline to the LNG plant at Caution Bay in Central Province. There, the gas is liquefied and loaded onto LNG carriers for export.

Production began in 2014. Since startup, the project has loaded more than 1,000 LNG cargoes, primarily for long-term customers in the Asia Pacific.
