COASTAL TO IDLE KANSAS REFINERIES

Coastal Refining & Marketing Inc. will suspend operations at the three Kansas refineries it operates early this summer until business conditions improve. Coastal will suspend certain processing operations at its 31,500 b/cd Wichita refinery and 30,000 b/d El Dorado refinery. It also plans to idle the plant at Augusta, which produces only gasoline from product feedstock, that it leases from Williams Cos., Tulsa. Coastal Refining & Marketing Inc. will suspend operations at the three Kansas refineries it operates early this summer until business conditions improve. Coastal will suspend certain processing operations at its 31,500 b/cd Wichita refinery and 30,000 b/d El Dorado refinery. It also plans to idle the plant at Augusta, which produces only gasoline from product feedstock, that it leases from Williams Cos., Tulsa. Coastal will continue operating terminal and product blending facilities, environmental projects, and catalyst rejuvenation services at the plants. The company also will continue to market petroleum products in Kansas and elsewhere in the Midwest. Coastal will cut staff at the refineries to about 60 from 293 by yearend.
