A judicial review decision of the New South Wales Land and Environment Court on Santos Ltd.’s Narrabri coal seam gas development has upheld the decision of the New South Wales Independent Planning Commission to allow the project to go ahead.
Santos managing director and chief executive Kevin Gallagher said the legal process pushed the project’s timeline back by 12 months, but that the company now aims to quickly move development plans forward, beginning with the appraisal drilling phase.
The company has committed 100% of the gas from Narrabri to the domestic market in New South Wales. The project will be the only source of gas within the state.
Narrabri has the potential to supply sufficient gas to meet up to half the New South Wales gas demand.
