Equinor has let a contract to CGG for seismic imaging of the 409-sq km Bacalhau 3D ocean bottom node (OBN) survey currently being acquired in in the Santos basin off Brazil.

Final products for the fully imaged dataset are expected to be delivered within 10 months after the survey is scheduled to complete in May 2021.

The project is under way at CGG’s Rio de Janeiro subsurface imaging center. The resulting subsurface image is expected to guide future drilling plans and development of Bacalhau field.

Bacalhau lies 185 km from the coast of the municipality of Ilhabela/SP, in the state of Sao Paulo, in water depths of 2050 m. First oil production is planned for 2023-2024 (OGJ Online, Jan. 30, 2020).
