Qatar progresses North Field expansion with Northern Offshore rig

Qatar Petroleum has progressed its North Field expansion project, commencing drilling operations utilizing Northern Offshore’s Energy Enticer. The jack up unit mobilized to the field in early September.

Qatar Petroleum has progressed its North Field expansion project, commencing drilling operations utilizing Northern Offshore’s Energy Enticer (OGJ Online, May 2, 2019). The jack up unit mobilized to the field in early September. The Energy Enticer is the first of three drilling units to commence long-term contracts with Qatargas on behalf of Qatar Petroleum.

The drilling program planned for the rigs is a major component of the expansion project to increase Qatar’s LNG production capacity to 110 million tonnes/year by 2024 from the current 77 million tpy.
