PTTEP takes FID for offshore Gulf of Thailand development

PTTEP's development of Bussabong field will include the deployment of two wellhead platforms and a seabed pipeline, with initial production expected to reach 30 MMcfd in 2029, expanding to 40 MMcfd in 2030.

PTTEP Energy Development Co. Ltd. has taken a final investment decision (FID) to advance development of the G3/65 offshore project in Bussabong natural gas field in the Gulf of Thailand, with first gas production targeted for 2028.

With approval of a defined production area for Bussabong field already approved by Thailand’s upstream regulator, Phase 1 of the project will entail two wellhead platforms of 24 well slots each to be deployed toward the northern end of the field in 75-90 m of water and tied in with a short 12-in. seabed pipeline to the central processing platform (CPP) at Bongkot gas field, 9 km east in the neighboring Block G2/61.

No new processing capacity is required at Bongkot to accommodate Bussabong production, the operator said.

Phase 1 aims to deliver about 30 MMcfd of gas in 2029, which will increase to about 40 MMcfd in 2030. Based on samples collected during exploration drilling, the gas is anticipated to be relatively dry (about 20 bbl/MMcf of condensate/gas).

PTTEP said it will work with regulators and the gas customer to formalize a gas sales agreement.

In addition, PTTEP confirmed plans to conduct further exploration activities in other areas of the G3/65 Project, including drilling of an exploration well in the Nong Yao Northeast prospect to further assess the petroleum potential. A successful discovery could provide an opportunity to increase the G3/65 Project’s production capacity in the future, the company said.

Bussabong lies in the eastern part of Block G3/65 with geological similarities to other gas fields in the region. The field’s reservoirs are divided into multiple fault-block compartments, which lend themselves to a phased, repeatable development model.

Fully covered in pre-existing 3D seismic data, the Bussabong area contained several historic gas discoveries, with an additional exploration well drilled in the area in 2025.

PTTEP Energy Development Co. is a subsidiary of PTT Exploration and Production Public Co. Ltd. PTTEP is operator of the G3/65 Project (60%) on behalf of partner Valeura Energy (Chaiyaphruek) Ltd. (40%).
