Eni SPA subsidiary Eni Cyprus Ltd. has let a subsea contract to McDermott International Inc. for the Cronos gas field development in deepwater offshore Cyprus, about 185 km southwest of the coast.

Under the contract, McDermott will provide project management, engineering, procurement, and installation support for the development of the field.

McDermott said its subsea and floating facilities team will execute the project with expertise and resources from its Houston, Perth, London, and Kuala Lumpur offices, supported by the company's marine construction fleet.

On July 28, Eni took an FID to develop the Cronos project in Block 6 with the target to bring the first Cypriot gas to market in 2028.

Cronos will be developed through four subsea wells and is expected to reach a plateau of 500 MMcfd. Gas will be transported via subsea pipeline and processed in existing Zohr installations in Egypt, then transferred and liquefied in the Damietta LNG plant for export as LNG to international markets, mostly in the European Union.

Eni holds 50% interest in and operates Block 6 on behalf of joint-venture partner TotalEnergies SE, which holds the remaining 50% stake.
