Staatsolie to conduct seismic survey offshore Suriname

State oil firm Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname NV plans to conduct a seismic survey in the shallow area offshore Suriname.

The area, covering about 2,000 sq km, lies off the coast of Saramacca and Coronie at a water depth of 20-50 m, the company said in a release last week.

The survey, scheduled to begin in mid-October and run until mid-December, will collect data for the assessment of potential oil and gas reserves.

An Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan will be prepared and implemented prior to this project in accordance with guidelines of the National Environmental Authority.
