Urja Bharat PTE discovered oil in in Abu Dhabi’s onshore Block 1.
Light crude was discovered in the unconventional Shilaif play and the Habshan carbonate reservoir.
Urja Bharat PTE Ltd. (UBPL) discovered oil in in Abu Dhabi’s onshore Block 1, India's Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, posted on X Jan. 14.
Light crude was discovered in both the unconventional Shilaif play (exploration well XN‑76) and the Habshan carbonate reservoir (exploration well XN‑79 02S).
Block 1 covers a total area of up to 6,162 sq km. The Habshan formation is a major carbonate reservoir in Southeast Abu Dhabi and contains significant hydrocarbon potential with more than 1,000 ft in reservoir thickness.
Urja Bharat PTE Ltd. is a 50-50 joint venture between Indian Oil Corp. Ltd. and Bharat PetroResources Ltd. (BPCL) and holds 100% of the Block 1 concession.
