OKEA ASA has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Aker Solutions for the Draugen electrification project, offshore Norway. The LOI follows completion of front-end engineering and design (FEED) work performed by Aker Solutions.

The plan involves major modifications to the existing platform to enable it to receive power from shore via an electrical power cable. This will replace the current power generation from gas turbines at the platform and reduce CO2 emissions by about 200,000 tonnes/year, Aker Solutions said in a release Dec. 15.

The service company expects the LOI to be converted to a full engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) contract in first-quarter 2023. In 2020, the field produced 17,500 boe/d.

Draugen is oil field with associated gas in the southern part of the Norwegian sea in water depth of 250 m. Production began in 1993.

OKEA is operator of the field with 44.56% interest. Partners are Petoro AS (47.88%), and M Vest Energy AS (7.56%).
