HOUSTON, Dec. 20 -- Midwestern Oil & Gas Co. PLC spudded the UMU-4 well at Umusadege marginal oil field in the central Niger Delta in Nigeria.

Drilling of UMU-5 is to follow, and a step-out is to be drilled in the second half of 2007.

Umusadege field has 3 wells drilled and cased in 1974-80. N2, the only well production-tested, flowed at a combined rate of 2,654 b/d of oil from undisclosed formations.

The group developing the field consists of Midwestern as operator, Suntrust Oil Co. Nigeria Ltd., and Mart Resources Inc., Calgary.
