  • ONE-Dyas started the second production well on N05-A platform, North Sea.
  • The platform operates entirely on electricity from the nearby German offshore wind.

ONE-Dyas BV started gas production from the second production well on the N05-A platform in the Dutch North Sea, contributing to the gas supply to the Netherlands and Germany.

The first production well at produced about 700 million cu m/yr of natural gas. With the commissioning of the second production well, annual gas production has increased to about 1 billion cu m/yr (bcmy). The platform holds capacity for 2 bcmy, about 7% of the Netherlands' and 2.5% of Germany's gas demand. ONE-Dyas expects, given current drilling activities, maximum production to be reached in this year's fourth quarter, prior to winter. A maximum of twelve wells are expected to be drilled from the location, some of which will target the N05-A field and others a number of adjacent fields that may contain gas.

The platform produces natural gas with virtually no CO2 emissions, as it operates entirely on electricity from the nearby German offshore wind farm Riffgat, the company said.

N05-A is sited in the wider cross-border 'Gateway to the Ems’ (GEMS) area, which lies at the mouth of Ems estuary, straddling straddles multiple shallow-water licences in the Dutch and German sectors of the southern North Sea. The project focuses primarily on production from N05-A and the development of N04-A and N04-C. Thea area holds an estimated resource potential of about 50 billion cu m of natural gas.
