Murphy Oil ramps up activity in Côte d’Ivoire, Vietnam, Gulf of Mexico
Murphy Oil Corp. has successfully appraised and produced new wells in Côte d’Ivoire, offshore Vietnam, and Gulf of Mexico.
Bubale West-1X in Block CI-103 offshore Côte d’Ivoire was drilled to a total measured depth of about 19,357 ft (5,900 m) TD in 9,039 ft (2,755 m) of water and encountered about 88 ft (27 m) of net oil pay in the Turonian reservoir.
Additional hydrocarbons were also encountered in the deeper Albian reservoir the company said on Oct. 12.
Preliminary analysis of logs and fluid samples indicates high-quality oil.
Murphy said it will integrate information obtained from the well with existing subsurface data to optimize the remaining appraisal program at Bubale.
Murphy CI-103 Oil Co., Ltd., is operator of Block CI-103 (85%) with partners Société Nationale d’Opérations Pétrolières de la Côte d’Ivoire (PETROCI) holding the remaining 15%.
Murphy confirmed it also achieved first oil from Lac Da Vang field in Block 15-1/05 offshore Vietnam on Sept. 27, 2026. The company said it expects to ramp up the development through 2028 as additional wells are brought online, with net peak production of about 10,000-15,000 boe/d anticipated in 2028-29.
Murphy said achieving first oil from Lac Da Vang represents a milestone in the company's Vietnam strategy and establishes a new source of production and cash flow from its offshore portfolio.
Alongside Lac Da Vang, Murphy also discovered hydrocarbons at the Lac Da Trang North-1X well in Block 15-1/05, encountering 131 ft (40 m) of net oil pay. The well was drilled to a total measured depth of about 12,579 ft (3,834 m) in 147 ft (45 m) of water.
The company said it will evaluate the Lac Da Trang North-1X data and assess potential appraisal and development options.
The now-producing Lac Da Vang asset provides nearby infrastructure for a potential tieback of the Lac Da Trang North discovery, creating a pathway to a capital-efficient, shorter-cycle development.
Murphy Cuu Long Bac Oil Co. Ltd. operates Block 15-1/05 (40%) on behalf of partners PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corp. Ltd. (35%) and SK Earthon Co. Ltd. (25%).
In the Gulf of Mexico, Murphy confirmed the Chinook #8 development well in Walker Ridge Block 425 is now online and producing through the Pioneer floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) in Cascade-Chinook field. Consistent with pre-drill expectations, the well achieved an initial gross production rate of about 15,000 boe/d.
Murphy, through its subsidiaries, holds an 86.7% working interest in Chinook #8 with Petrobras America Inc. holding the remaining 13.3% through its ownership interest in MP GOM.
