Murphy Oil Corp. drilled the Civette-1X well offshore Côte d’Ivoire, encountering non-commercial hydrocarbons in Block CI-502 exploration well.

The well reached a total depth of 13,950 ft (4,252 m) and encountered non-commercial hydrocarbons across multiple intervals, the company said.

Eric Hambly, president and chief executive officer said that while Civette "did not meet commercial thresholds, the well provided insights that strengthen our subsurface understanding for the potential of the basin and inform the remaining prospectivity on the CI-502 Block."

Murphy said it will continue its exploration program in the country with the operated Caracal (Block CI-102) and Bubale (Block CI-709) prospects (Murphy Oil, 90%) to be drilled this year in Tano basin. Both are targeting independent plays with 'significant' resource potential, the company said.

Murphy is operator in Block CI-502 (90%) with Société Nationale d’Opérations Pétrolières de la Côte d’Ivoire (PETROCI) holding the remaining 10%.
