Eni North Africa and the Libya's National Oil Corp. (NOC) discovered gas offshore western Libya, about 95 km from the coast.

The discovery followed drilling of exploration well J1-4/16 in Contract 4/16. Drilling was completed to a final depth of 10,458 ft. Tests of the Metlawi reservoir produced flow rates across two tests: 14 MMcfd through a 32/64-in. choke in the first test, and 24 MMcfd through a 62/64-in. choke in the second.

This well is the final one in fulfilling nine contractual obligations for offshore Contract Block D, as stipulated in the agreement signed in June 2008.

Eni North Africa is operator of Contract 4/16.
