North America rig numbers dip

Total drilling activity in North America decreased the week ended Aug 29 with a total of 711 rigs working, reported Baker Hughes. Rig numbers in Canada and the US both dropped.

The total rig count in North America is down 92 rigs from the same time last year.

Canada ended the week with 175 rigs working, down 5 units week-over-week and down 45 units from the same period last year.

There were 536 rigs working in the US and its waters, down 2 from last week and down 47 from the same period in 2024.

The number of rotary rigs working in US inland waters was unchanged at 2, up 1 from the year-ago period. Offshore activity was unchanged with 13 rigs working. Ten rigs were drilling in the US Gulf of Mexico, unchanged from last week.

Texas added a single rig to end the week with 241 rigs working.

Louisiana and North Dakota each dropped 1 rig, leaving respective counts of 37 and 27.
