Equinor Brasil Energia Ltda has exercised a 1-year priced option for the Seadrill Ltd. ultra-deep water drillship West Saturn for work in Brazil, marking a continuation of the original contract into a sixth consecutive year.

The exercised option adds $114 million to Seadrill’s contract backlog and extends the original contract, which began in 2022, through October 2027. That contract, signed in 2021 for Bacalhau field work in the Brazilian Santos basin presalt area, was originally designed as a 4-year contract with four 1-year options.
