Shell makes progress toward Pensacola prospect drilling

Shell UK Ltd. has completed the final phase of a site survey program over the planned Pensacola exploration well location on license P2252 in the southern North Sea.

Shell UK Ltd. has completed the final phase of a site survey program over the planned Pensacola exploration well location on license P2252 in the southern North Sea.

The survey was conducted by Fugro GB North Marine Ltd., partner Deltic Energy PLC said in a release Oct. 22 (OGJ Online, May 24, 2021).

Data collection began Oct. 16 and was completed Oct. 20 with demobilization starting shortly thereafter.  All site survey work is now complete. 

The exploration well remains scheduled to be spudded in second-quarter 2022. Shell has also confirmed that a rig is available to drill Pensacola. 

Pensacola is a Zechstein reef upper Permian patch structure covering an area of 15 km by 6 km. It is over 200 m thick and has P50 prospective resources of 309 bcf.

Shell is operator of the license with 70% interest. Deltic Energy holds the remaining 30%.
