North Oil lets rig contract for work offshore Qatar

North Oil Co., a joint venture of Qatar Petroleum and TotalEnergies, has let a 3-year contract to Valaris Ltd. for work offshore Qatar. The contract, for the Valaris JU-110 heavy-duty jack up rig, is expected to begin in this year’s fourth quarter.

North Oil Co. was formed in 2017 to maximize production from Al-Shaheen oil field with a 25-year production sharing agreement (OGJ Online, June 27, 2016). Located in Qatari waters 80 km north of Ras Laffan, Al-Shaheen began production in 1994. With 33 platforms and over 300 well, the field’s 100 million bbl/year comprise 45% of Qatar’s oil production.
