Equinor Energy AS has let a contract to Odfjell for use of its Deepsea Stavanger semisubmersible drilling rig, scheduled to start drilling three exploration wells in the North Sea in February 2022. Work is estimated to take 4 months. The contract includes continuing options after the initial phase.
The fixed portion of the contract is valued at $40 million. Drilling services and other additional services, such as running casing, treatment of wastewater, handling of cuttings, remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and fuel, are included in the contract.
Deepsea Stavanger is a sister rig to Odfjell’s Deepsea Atlantic, contracted for years by Equinor, and Deepsea Aberdeen, which is expected to drill on Breidablikk field in the Norwegian Continental Shelf in the spring of 2022 (OGJ Online, Apr. 12, 2021; Oct. 5, 2020).
