Inpex Corp. has let seven contracts to Halliburton Co. for drilling and completion services for the next phase of field development of the Ichthys project in the Browse Basin offshore northern Australia.

Inpex Corp. has let seven contracts to Halliburton Co. for drilling and completion services for the next phase of field development of the Ichthys project in the Browse Basin offshore northern Australia.

The well development campaign is expected to begin in March and will continue for an estimated 3-year term. The contracts awarded include directional drilling, logging while drilling, surface data logging, drilling and completions fluids, cementing, liner hangers, coring and well completions services.

The field, in 250 m of water about 220 km offshore, contains an estimated 12 tcf of gas and 500 million bbl of condensate. The environmental plan for the Phase 2 drilling campaign of the gas field was submitted by Inpex to the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority in September 2019 (OGJ Online, Sept. 20, 2019).

Halliburton’s Western Australian facilities in Jandakot and Broome will support the project and the company expects to hire locally at its Broome facility to support the contract.

Inpex Ichthys Pty has 62.245% and operatorship of the Ichthys project. As of August 2019, partners include Total 26%, CPC Corp. Taiwan 2.625%, Tokyo Gas 1.575%, Osaka Gas 1.2%, Kansai Electric Power 1.2%, Jera 0.735%, and Toho Gas 0.42%.
