Canada's rig count increased by 7 rigs to 218 rotary rigs working for the week ended Sept. 27, according to Baker Hughes data. That compares with 191 rigs working this time a year ago. Canada’s gas rig count decreased by a single unit to hit 65, while the oil rig count increased by 8 to 152.
US drilling activity ended the week with 587 rigs working, down a single unit from last week. Last year at this time, 623 rigs were working. In the US this week, 484 rigs were drilling for oil, down 4 units from last week. There were 99 rigs drilling for natural gas, up 3 from the week prior.
Operations in inland waters and on land were unchanged this week, while one fewer rig was drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.
