Buru Energy Ltd., Perth, has restarted oil production from Ungani field in the onshore Canning basin of Western Australia. Oil was delivered this week to the storage tank at the northern Australian port of Wyndham.
Initial production included a series of rate and interference tests to quantify reservoir properties prior to full-scale production. This also will provide baseline production data prior to installation of downhole pumps. These data are now being processed. A full review will take 4-6 weeks.
The field is now producing at 800 b/d while the road transport system is being fully commissioned. This will be progressively increased to 1,250 b/d during the early part of July.
Buru says it has completed modifications to the CGL 80,000-bbl storage tank in Wyndham to convert it to a crude oil container. The work involved drainage and cleaning of the tank and installation of an epoxy coating and mixing system as well as modifications to pipework to optimize crude loading and unloading. Transport from the field is by a quad road train—a prime-mover tanker and three separate trailer tankers.
The next phase of development will be installation of the downhole pumps in the Ungani-1 and Ungani-2 wells along with an upgrade of the fluid handling system and additional tankage in the field.
Phase 3 will involve incremental development of the field and include additional drainage points to capture the identified resources.
