Woodside Petroleum Ltd. has let a contract to Valaris PLC for a 16-well program offshore Australia to begin first-half 2022.

The company has assigned the semisubmersible Valaris DPS-1 for the work which is expected to take around 300 days.

The DPS-1 can drill in up to 3,000 m of water to a depth of around 10,500 m subsea.

This is the second Australian contract for Valaris this week and follows Western Gas Ltd.’s contract to Valaris MS-1 for the Sasanof-1 wildcat on the Exmouth Plateau off Western Australia (OGJ Online, July 2, 2021).

The MS-1 is already in Western Australia. The DPS-1 is currently in Malaysia.
