Woodside Energy Group Ltd. has let a subsea wellhead systems contract to Dril-Quip Inc. for the Trion development offshore Mexico.
Trion is a greenfield development that would represent the first oil production from Mexico’s deepwater. The project lies in the Gulf of Mexico in water depth of 2,500 m, about 180 km off the Mexican coastline. The project received approval from the Mexican Ministry for Energy for its social impact assessment earlier this month (OGJ Online, Feb. 14, 2024).
The Trion deveopment includes 24 wells across two phases. Woodside's will use Dril-Quip's big bore subsea wellheads with 2 million lb lockdown capacity. Dril-Quip's Villahermosa, Mexico, facility will be involved in supporting the project.
Woodside is operator at Trion (60%) with partner PEMEX Exploración y Producción (40%).
