Woodside lets well construction contract for deepwater Trion development
Woodside Petróleo Operaciones de México, S. de R.L. de C.V. (Woodside Energy) has let a 3-year contract to Expro to support the Trion deepwater oil and gas development in the western Gulf of Mexico.
Under the agreement, Expro will provide tubular running services (TRS) and cementing services. The workscope includes TRS casing, completion and drilling support, as well as the provision of casing accessories, cement heads, and other technologies.
Trion lies 180 km off the Mexican coastline and 30 km south of the Mexico-US maritime border in water depths up to 8,200 ft. The field will be developed with 18 wells (nine producers, seven water injectors, and two gas injectors) drilled in the initial phase and a total of 24 wells drilled over the life of the project. The development is targeting 479 MMboe of best estimate (2C) contingent oil and gas (OGJ Online, Dec. 6, 2023).
Representing the first deepwater oil production in Mexico, the project is a joint venture between Woodside Energy (60%, operator) and Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX, 40%), with first oil targeted for 2028.
