Mubadala Petroleum will drill an extra well this year as part of its ongoing Manora oil field development program in the Gulf of Thailand, partner Tap Oil Ltd., Perth, noted in a June 16 release.

The decision was made following positive results of the first three wells in the 2020 program. Initial indications show the new wells are expected to deliver around 3,600 b/d of incremental oil production beginning in July.

The extra well–MNA-28–was originally scheduled for drilling in 2021. To be drilled from a new platform slot, it will target an additional drainage point in the thick oil-bearing 490-60 sand in the field’s eastern fault block. The well is justified by reservoir simulation of the main reservoir because it will accelerate field production and produce otherwise undrained oil between the MNA-18 and MNA-20 wells, Tap said. It will be a deviated well drilled to a maximum measured depth of 2,102.5 m at an estimated cost of $3 million.

Mubadala forecasts it will add an initial 1,600 b/d of oil to Manora production.
