Operators let rig contracts, extensions to Rowan

Fieldwood Energy LLC has let a 1-year contract to Rowan Cos. PLC for use of its Rowan Reliance, an R-Class ultradeepwater drillship, in the US Gulf of Mexico. The contract, which includes three 90-day options, is expected to begin in first-quarter 2019. Rowan Reliance is currently warm-stacked offshore Louisiana in the gulf.

Also in October, Equinor ASA let a contract to Rowan for use of the Rowan Stavanger, an N-Class ultra-harsh environment jack up rig, in Norway with a firm term of 5 months plus options. The contract is expected to begin in third-quarter 2019. The rig is currently in Yme field for accommodations and platform support services for Repsol in Norway.

Separately, the contract with Cantium for the EXL III, an EXL Class high-specification jack up rig, in the US gulf has been extended to 9 months from 6 months. The firm term is followed by two 6-month options.

BP PLC also extended a contract with Rowan. The contract for the Joe Douglas in Trinidad and Tobago has been extended by one well with an expected duration of 76 days and includes one additional two-well option.
