Vedanta Ltd. has won a court decision supporting an extension of the production-sharing contract covering its prolific Rajasthan Block in India.

The Delhi High Court instructed the Indian government to extend the contract for the Barmer basin block to 2030. The contract was set to expire in 2020.

Vedanta, which completed its acquisition of former block operator Cairn India Ltd. last year, holds a 70% interest. State-owned Oil & Natural Gas Corp. holds 30%.

The extension request, first made in 2009, encountered a series of government delays.

Vedanta and ONGC produce oil from Bhagyam, Mangala, and Aishwariya fields on the block and have made more than 30 other oil and gas discoveries (OGJ Online, May 10, 2017).
