International Frontier Resources Corp., Calgary, said its Tonalli Energia joint venture with Grupo IDESA will begin production tests soon of the first well on its Tecolutla Block in the Tampico-Misantla basin of Mexico (OGJ Online, Mar. 13, 2018).

The TEC-10 directional evaluation well reached target depth of 2,453 m TVD (2,490 m MD), encountering the top of the Cretaceous El Abra reef at 2,315 m TVD.

Wireline logs indicated 57 m of the reef has above 3% porosity and average porosity of 5.7%.

The operator identified multiple prospective intervals, including a primary target in the upper El Abra with 13 m of net reservoir with 6-18% porosity, average 10.7%. A core cut from the interval had visible porosity with oil staining.

Three intervals in the lower El Abra had oil shows during drilling and indicated porosity of 3-6%. The lowest identified interval is at 2,408 m TVD, 70 m below the lowest produced interval in Tecolutla field.
