Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. subsidiary ADNOC Refining (formerly Takreer) has let a contract to McDermott International Inc. to deliver front-end engineering and design for a refinery offgas project at the combined 817,000-b/d refinery in Ruwais, in the western region of Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. subsidiary ADNOC Refining (formerly Takreer) has let a contract to McDermott International Inc. to deliver front-end engineering and design for a refinery offgas project (ROG) at the combined 817,000-b/d refinery in Ruwais, in the western region of Abu Dhabi.

McDermott’s scope of work in the concept study phase includes evaluating various technology configurations and options for the recovery of hydrogen, ethane, and sales-grade LPG or C3 and C4, the service provider said.

The ROG FEED services will be used as the basis for the preparation of the engineering, procurement, and construction management estimate and inquiry phase.

McDermott said work on the project will begin immediately, with the contract award—valued at $1-50 million—to be reflected in the company’s second-quarter backlog.

The latest contract follows ADNOC’s earlier award to John Wood Group PLC to deliver preliminary FEED for a new 600,000-b/d refinery and petrochemical expansion-integration at the Ruwais complex as part of the operator’s broader $45-billion program to become a global downstream leader under a new combined model of strategic partnerships and investments (OGJ Online, Feb. 21, 2019).
