Aspen Midstream advances Katy Hub natural gas project to boost Gulf Coast connectivity

The company has taken final investment decision aimed at improving natural gas connectivity along the US Gulf Coast to help support LNG, power, and industrial markets.

Aspen Midstream LLC, Dallas, reached a final investment decision (FID) on its Aspen Katy Hub header project aimed at providing natural gas connectivity to expanding LNG, power, and industrial markets along the US Gulf Coast.

The Aspen Katy Hub is strategically positioned at a critical intersection between some of the nation’s most prolific natural gas supply basins and rapidly growing Gulf Coast demand centers — Matt Ray, co-CEO, Aspen Midstream

This infrastructure project will provide bi-directional natural gas connectivity in the Katy, Tex., region by linking domestic supply to the Gulf Coast.

The project, which is backed by long-term, take or pay contracts with investment grade shippers, will include the installation of new compression and will feature both low- and high-pressure header systems, the company said in a release May 13.

Upon completion in first-quarter 2027, the project is expected to provide about 3 bcfd of total receipt and delivery capacity with eight natural gas pipelines.

Aspen Midstream's Austin Chalk system currently spans Fayette, Washington, Austin, Colorado, and Waller counties in Texas, with planned expansions into surrounding counties. The system is anchored by high-pressure natural gas transmission infrastructure with direct connectivity to the Katy Hub.

Aspen Midstream is backed by EnCap Flatrock Midstream.
