Cheniere Energy Inc., Houston, has reached substantial completion of the Corpus Christi Liquefaction Stage 3 Project (CCL Stage 3) in Texas.

Bechtel Energy Inc., Cheniere’s engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor, turned over care, custody, and control of the seventh and last train of CCL Stage 3 to Cheniere on Aug. 28.

In June 2022, Cheniere took final investment decision (FID) on CCS Stage 3 to support growing global demand for natural gas.  The first train of Stage 3 reached substantial completion in March 2025. 

In this year’s second quarter, the company reached substantial completion of the sixth train (Midscale Train 6) of the CCL Stage 3 project following substantial completions of Midscale Trains 1-4 of the CCL Stage 3 project in 2025 and Midscale Train 5 of the CCL Stage 3 project in March 2026.

In June 2026, Cheniere received authorization from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to increase the LNG production capacity of the previously authorized CCL Stage 3 project and CCL Midscale Trains 8 & 9 Project by about 5 million tonnes/year in aggregate.

In total, CCL Stage 3 expands Cheniere’s US Gulf Coast LNG production capacity—consisting of the Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi liquefaction plants— by over 20%, to about 56 million tpy.
