Delfin Midstream issues LNTP for second FLNG vessel equipment
Delfin Midstream Inc. has issued a limited notice to proceed (LNTP) to Siemens Energy Inc. for procurement of long-lead equipment for its second floating LNG production vessel (FLNG2), planned offshore Louisiana.
The order covers four Siemens Energy SGT-750 gas turbines and mixed-refrigerant compressors.
Delfin said the LNTP marks another milestone toward a targeted final investment decision (FID) on FLNG2 by yearend 2026.
The company also has reached an agreement under which MidOcean Energy may acquire up to a 50% equity interest in FLNG2 and receive a corresponding share of LNG production, subject to a positive FID and satisfaction of other conditions.
FLNG2 will use the same design as Delfin’s first floating LNG vessel, FLNG1, which reached FID in June, and is currently under development. LNG production from FLNG1 is expected to begin in 2030.
Delfin and MidOcean also are advancing pre-development activities for a potential third floating LNG vessel (FLNG3) as part of a broader effort to expand US Gulf Coast LNG export capacity.
“This milestone underscores the commercial readiness of our floating LNG platform,” said Delfin chief executive officer Dudley Poston. Securing manufacturing slots for critical long-lead equipment with Siemens Energy is “an important advancement in de-risking the project schedule as we work toward FID for the second vessel,” he said.
FLNG2 details
Like FLNG1, FLNG2 will have an expected nameplate capacity of 4.4 million tonnes/year and will use Siemens Energy SGT-750 gas turbines and mixed-refrigerant compression technology.
The vessel will be moored offshore Louisiana and connected to existing offshore pipeline infrastructure through the Delfin Deepwater Port. The project is expected to benefit from port infrastructure being developed as part of Delfin’s phased multi-vessel LNG export program.
Delfin has described its project as the first deepwater-port LNG export development in the US and the largest floating LNG export project of its kind globally.
