Freeport LNG will be shutting its 15-million tonne/year liquefaction plant on Quintana Island, Tex., for at least 3 weeks following an explosion at the site yesterday. No injuries were reported.

Freeport LNG will be shutting its 15-million tonne/year liquefaction plant on Quintana Island, Tex., for at least 3 weeks following an explosion at the site yesterday. No injuries were reported.

European natural gas traded as much as 20% higher the morning after the closure was announced, with UK prices approaching a 40% jump.

Investigation into the explosion’s causes is ongoing.

Freeport is about 70 miles south of Houston.
