First Gen’s Batangas FSRU set for Q3 2022 commercial service
May 20, 2021
First Gen Corp.’s 500-MMscfd interim offshore LNG terminal in Batangas, Philippines, is on track to be complete by 2022, with commercial operation to start in the third quarter of the year. The terminal will supplement gas supply to the country until a permanent onshore terminal is completed and as Malampaya gas field depletes.
During First Gen’s annual stockholders’ meeting May 19, 2021, Chief Commercial Officer Jonathan Russell noted that the terminal's 500 MMscfd regasification capacity would be “higher than Malampaya’s daily production of 400 MMscfd.” Imported gas will supply existing and new gas-fired powerplants.
"We are looking at expanding (our) potential customer base by seeking new ways to deliver gas to customers using small scale LNG by road and by sea instead of traditional pipelines," he added.
Philippines’ Department of Energy has permitted the project and First Gen has awarded a turnkey construction contract to McConnell Dowell. BW Gas Ltd. will supply the terminal’s floating storage and regasification unit (OGJ Online, Apr. 5, 2021).
