Delta Offshore Energy (DOE) awarded Stena Power & LNG Solutions a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for use of Stena’s jettyless LNG transfer and regasification process in DOE’s Bac Lieu LNG-to-power project. DOE will use Stena’s jettyless floating terminal (JFT) and self-installing regas platform (SRP) to supply gas to a 3.2-Gw power plant project in Bac Lieu province, Mekong Delta, Vietnam.

The JFT and SRP will be about 40 km off the Vietnam shoreline. FEED will include detailed model testing to ensure optimum performance with the environmental conditions in the Mekong Delta.

The JFT can transfer 500-10,000 cu m/hr in seas as high as 2.5 m with maximum waves of 5 m.

The jack-up SRP platform is not exposed to the wave loads and motions common with traditional LNG floating storage and regasification units (FSRU), ensuring regasification and gas delivery regularity, according to Stena. Installing regasification on the SRP also removes the need to convert an LNG carrier to an FSRU, Stena said, reducing time and cost.
