China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (Sinopec) has commissioned its Guangxi LNG regasification terminal at Beihai City in China’s province of Guangxi (OGJ Online, Aug. 6, 2013).
Sinopec entered the terminal into commercial operation on Apr. 19 after reception of its first 160,000-cu m delivery of LNG from Australia Pacific LNG Pty. Ltd.'s (APLNG) coalseam gas-to-LNG (CSG-LNG) project on Curtis Island near Gladstone on the central east coast of Queensland, Sinopec said.
The Guangxi regasification terminal, which has a designed LNG-receiving capacity of 3 million tonnes/year, will supply 22 million families in China’s southwest provinces of Guangxi and western Guangdong with an equivalent of 4 billion cu m/year of gas, the company said.
The terminal will receive its LNG supplies predominantly from APLNG as part of a long-term supply arrangement between APLNG and Sinopec under which China’s state-owned operator has agreed to purchase 7.6 million tpy of LNG for 20 years (OGJ Online, Dec. 11, 2015).
The $24.7-billion (Aus.) APLNG CSG-LNG project, which started production from Train 1 in December 2015, shipped its first LNG export cargo from Curtis Island on Jan. 9, APLNG said.
At full capacity, the two-train Curtis Island facility will supply 9 million tpy of LNG to export customers in the Asia-Pacific region.
Jointly owned by partners Origin Energy Ltd. 37.5%, ConocoPhillips 37.5%, and Sinopec 25%, APLNG said in a February project update that it expects to reach full production from both LNG trains at Curtis Island by yearend.
