Sept. 4, 2023 | The onshore part of Norway’s Northern Lights CO2 transport and storage project is in Øygarden, Norway, and receives CO2 from industrial emitters by ship for intermediate storage before transport by pipeline for permanent storage in a geological reservoir 2,600 m under the seabed. Phase 1 has capacity to inject up 1.5 million tpy of CO2 and is scheduled to begin operation in 2024. The Northern Lights JV DA is owned equally by Equinor ASA, Shell PLC, and TotalEnergies SE.
