CANADA SPELLS OUT FEATURES OF NATURAL GAS, METHANOL FUEL PROGRAMS
Here are highlights of the extension to Canada's market development incentive payments (MDIP) programs for natural gas and methanol fueled vehicles:
- As much as $1,000 toward the purchase of a natural gas vehicle (NGV) carrying a vehicle manufacturer's warranty.
- As much as $500 toward the after-market conversion of an onroad vehicle.
- An additional $500, to be cost shared with Alberta natural gas utilities, for after-market conversions undertaken in Alberta.
- An emissions control requirement, such as installation of a feedback system, to be phased in as a condition of MDIP support.
- $500 toward the cost of a vehicle refueling appliance. Installation is no longer linked to a vehicle conversion under the program.
- NGVs and refueling appliances owned by natural gas distribution utilities for their own use are no longer eligible for funding.
- As much as 25% of capital costs to a maximum of $50,000, for installation of public and private fueling facilities.
- Private fueling facilities owned by natural gas distribution utilities are no longer eligible for funding.
- Expansion of the currentmarket demonstration of methanol light duty vehicles.
- Continued funding of technical development projects in support of methanol and NGVs and other areas of gas technology.
