Riggs to succeed Gorder as Valero CEO

Valero Energy Corp. has elected R. Lane Riggs, the company’s president and chief operating officer, to succeed Joseph W. Gorder as chief executive officer, effective June 30.

Valero Energy Corp. has elected R. Lane Riggs, the company’s president and chief operating officer, to succeed Joseph W. Gorder as chief executive officer, effective June 30. Riggs will also serve as a member of the board.

In addition to his current position, Riggs has held several leadership positions with Valero overseeing refining operations, crude and feedstock supply, and planning and economics (OGJ Online, Jan. 24, 2020). He previously served on the board of directors of Valero Energy Partners GP LLC from 2014 to 2019.

Effective June 30, Gorder will retire from his position as Valero’s chief executive officer and chairman of the board. He has been elected as executive chairman of the board. In his new role, Gorder will lead the board of directors, and continue to provide advice and counsel, the company said.  

Gorder has served as chief executive of Valero since May 1, 2014, and has served as chairman of the board since Dec. 31, 2014 (OGJ Online, Mar. 25, 2014).
