Vogel named SM Energy president as Ottoson plans retirement

Herbert Vogel has been appointed president of SM Energy Co., Denver, and is expected to be promoted to chief executive officer upon the planned retirement of president and chief executive officer Javan Ottoson by yearend. Ottoson will remain a member of the board of directors until the next annual meeting in May 2021.    

Vogel was appointed executive vice-president and chief operating officer in June 2019, having previously served as executive vice-president of operations since August 2014. 

Ottoson joined the company in December 2006 as executive vice-president and chief operating officer (OGJ Online, Dec. 5, 2006). He was appointed president of the company in October 2012 and as chief executive officer in February 2015.
