US Senate confirms FERC Commissioner LaCerte for second term

LaCerte, sworn in last year, has now holds the appointment until June 30, 2031.

The US Senate on May 18 confirmed David LaCerte for a second term as Commissioner at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

LaCerte was sworn in Oct. 27, 2025, to serve the remainder of a term expiring June 30, 2026, previously held by Democrat Willie Phillips, who had served during the Biden administration.

LaCerte now holds the appointment until June 30, 2031.

During his initial term, Commissioner LaCerte has been focused on advancing and modernizing energy infrastructure projects and strengthening grid reliability, FERC noted in a release May 18.

Prior to joining FERC, Commissioner LaCerte served as an incident response attorney in the energy sector with Clean Air Act litigation experience. He has received presidential and gubernatorial appointments and has led both large and small federal agencies.

His public service includes roles as Principal White House Liaison and Senior Advisor at the US Office of Personnel Management, Acting Managing Director of the US Chemical Safety Board, and as a state Cabinet Secretary in Louisiana.
