Regulators, investors and executives will gather for Deloitte Energy Conference
May 18-20: The 2008 Deloitte Energy Conference at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, 2600 Woodley Road NW, will open on the 18th with an evening reception. But the heart of the meeting will be a general session on the 19th and breakout sessions on the 20th where experts from the financial services firm will lead discussions with regulators, investors and executives on a full range of energy issues.
Why it matters: The conference provides an important contrast to the increasingly strident rhetoric of the 110th Congress and Bush administration this spring. Organizers have assembled an impressive lineup of knowledgeable speakers who will discuss global energy security, US policies and energy efficiency.
The oil and gas breakout session the morning of the 20th will feature American Petroleum Institute President Red Cavaney, US Department of Energy Deputy Assistant Secretary for Oil and Gas James A. Slutz and three other participants discussing the National Petroleum Council's world oil supply report and public perceptions of the oil and gas industry. That alone makes the conference worth attending, but it will be followed that afternoon with another breakout session on new North American natural gas prospects.
The general session on the 19th sets the stage for the next day's breakout sessions with its discussions of broader issues which increasingly have impacts on individual energy sectors. Global climate change almost certainly will be discussed, especially with the US Senate preparing to debate the Lieberman-Warner bill early in June.
