The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada is inviting the public and Indigenous Peoples to review and provide feedback as part of the planning phase of an impact assessment for the proposed Gazoduq Project.

The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada is inviting the public and Indigenous Peoples to review and provide feedback as part of the planning phase of an impact assessment for the proposed Gazoduq Project, a 780-km natural gas pipeline between northeastern Ontario and Saguenay, Quebec.

Gazoduq Inc. is proposing construction of the pipeline to connect TC Energy Ltd.’s existing main natural gas transmission system in northeastern Ontario to the proposed Énergie Saguenay Project, a natural gas liquefaction facility by GNL Québec in Saguenay, Québec. The project also would include three compressor stations, one metering station, 25 block valves, and a dedicated control center.

Comments will be accepted until March 10 and can be submitted online at the Canadian Impact Assessment Registry.

Community meetings will be held during the consultation period with both the Agency and Canada Energy Regulator (CER) available to provide information and answer questions.

The proposed project is a designated project under the Agency’s Physical Activities Regulations and would be regulated by the CER. The integrated impact assessment for the project is a single assessment through a review panel process that would meet the requirements of both the Impact Assessment Act and the Canadian Energy Regulator Act.

On Aug. 28, 2019, the Impact Assessment Act, the Canadian Energy Regulator Act, and the Canadian Navigable Waters Act came into force. The Impact Assessment Act created the new Impact Assessment Agency of Canada and repealed the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012.
