Chariot gains Energean interests offshore Morocco

May 14, 2025
Chariot is now operator of the Lixus and Rissana licenses and will progress the work program to assess and adapt the Anchois development plan based.
  • Chariot obtained Energean's interests in Lixus and Rissana licenses.
  • The Anchois-3 well did not deliver volumes required to expand the initial Anchois development plan.
  • Adonis Pouroulis, CEO of Chariot, said the Anchois gas discovery "still offers the potential for a rescaled development".

Chariot Ltd. holds additional interests in the Lixus and Rissana licenses offshore Morocco following the return of the interests by Energean plc through the transfer of a wholly owned subsidiary which holds 45% and 37.5% interest in the licenses, respectively.

Chariot is now operator of each license with a 75% working interest. ONHYM retains its 25% stake in each.

Three production wells have now been drilled in the Lixus Offshore license, which contains Anchois gas field.

While the Anchois-3 well was completed in September 2024, it did not deliver the additional volumes required to enable an expansion of the initially planned Anchois development, Chariot said.

However, multiple good quality gas bearing reservoirs were found in the main B sand appraisal interval. Chariot will progress the license work program to assess and adapt the Anchois development plan based on discovered resources.

The 1,794 sq-km Lixus license lies in water depths from the coastline to 850 m. Legacy 3D seismic data covers about 1,425 sq km (OGJ Online, Dec. 7, 2023).
