Chesapeake to rebrand as Expand Energy upon close of Southwestern merger

Chesapeake Energy will rebrand as Expand Energy following the closing of its merger with Southwestern Energy Co.

Chesapeake Energy Corp., Oklahoma City, Okla., will rebrand as Expand Energy Corp. following the closing of its merger with Southwestern Energy Co., expected in the first week of October.

The $7-billion deal is expected to create an entity with more than 5,000 locations in Haynesville and Marcellus that produced about 7.9 bcfd when the deal was announced in February this year (OGJ Online, Feb. 13, 2024).

Once the deal closes, the combine will be the largest natural gas producer in the US, Chesapeake said in a release Sept. 26.
