Former Chevron exec Robertson joins Deloitte oil and gas group

The Deloitte Center for Energy Solutions has added former Chevron executive Peter Robertson to its roster.
RobertsonThe Deloitte Center for Energy Solutions has added former Chevron executive Peter Robertson to its roster. The 35-year Chevron veteran will serve as an independent senior advisor to Deloitte's oil and gas group. Robertson joined Chevron in 1973 and held a wide variety of responsibilities in addition to his post as vice chairman of the board, which ended on April 30, 2009. Robertson is currently a non-executive director of Jacobs Engineering, UniversalPegasus International, and an advisory director of Campbell-Lutyens. In addition, Robertson is co-chairman of the US Saudi Arabian Business Council, chairman of the World Affairs Council of Northern California, vice chairman of board of the International House at the University of California, Berkeley and a director of the Washington DC-based Resources for the Future. He holds an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School.

Perry Elders joins J. Ray McDermott as CFO

EldersPerry L. Elders has been elected CFO of J. Ray McDermott SA. Elders has 27 years of industry experience. Most recently, Elders served as executive vice president and CFO of Bristow Group from 2005 through 2009. Prior to joining Bristow, Elders served as vice president, finance and chief accounting officer at Vetco International. He began his career and served 20 years in public accounting, primarily with Arthur Andersen, where he left as an audit partner and head of its Gulf Coast Oilfield Services Industry Team, followed by PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he was an audit partner. He earned his bachelor's degree from New Mexico State University.

Capital One promotes veteran equity research analyst Conner

ConnerCapital One Financial Corp. has named Pierre Conner Head of sales, trading and research at Capital One Southcoast Inc., a wholly owned non-bank subsidiary of Capital One Financial Corp. Conner, who served as Capital One Southcoast's lead equity research analyst since 2003, will now oversee all aspects of the sales, research and trading functions. Over the past year, Capital One Southcoast has expanded its research coverage and become a top 10 underwriter of US energy debt and equity transactions. Based in New Orleans, Conner has almost 30 years combined experience in engineering and equity research. In his most recent role with Capital One Southcoast, Conner was senior oilfield services analyst and lead equity analyst for the firm. Prior to joining Capital One, he served in a number of engineering and operations management positions with Exxon Company USA. He received a bachelor's degree, a master's degree, and an MBA from Tulane University.

Dahlman Rose appoints Downey CFO; adds Fennebresque as chairman

Dahlman Rose & Co. has appointed Mark G. Downey as CFO. Downey has more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. Previously, he served as CFO, treasurer, and senior managing director for Tullett Prebon Americas Holding Corp. Downey served as a senior-level manager for nearly 13 years at Schroder & Co. and Deutsche Bank Securities Corp. He received his bachelor's degree from Iona College. The firm also appointed Kim S. Fennebresque as chairman. Fennebresque brings more than 30 years of experience in investment banking. He started his Wall Street career at The First Boston Corp. in 1977. He left in 1991 to join Lazard Freres as a general partner. He then joined UBS to lead the bank's M&A and corporate finance departments. In 1998, he joined SG Cowen, the US subsidiary of Societe Generale as head of investment banking. He served as president, CEO, and chairman for most of his tenure at Cowen. He was also recently designated by the US Treasury to the Board of GMAC. Fennebresque received his undergraduate degree from Trinity College and a law degree from Vanderbilt Law School.

Quantum names Tanner managing director, head of upstream oil and gas

TannerQuantum Energy Partners LLC, a provider of private equity to the energy industry, has added Garry Tanner as managing director. He will lead Quantum's strategy and investment efforts in the upstream oil and gas sector bringing over 25 years of commercial, technical, and operating experience throughout the US and Canada. Prior to joining Quantum, he served as executive vice president and COO at Enerplus Resources Fund. From 1984 to 1997, he worked for Exxon Company USA where he served in a variety of engineering, operational and management positions.

Dawson resigns CFO post at Northern Offshore

Northern Offshore Ltd.'s senior vice president and CFO, Michael R. Dawson, has resigned from the company. Dawson joined the company in early 2008. Before Northern Offshore, Dawson served as senior vice president and CFO GlobalSantaFe from 2005 until its merger with Transocean Inc. in late 2007. He holds a BBA from the University of Iowa.

Wells Fargo bankers join Baird to launch energy group

Baird, an international employee-owned financial services firm, has added Curtis Goot and Frank Murphy as managing directors to co-lead a new Energy Investment Banking Team. The team will focus on oil and gas E&P companies and MLPs. Goot and Murphy were both previously managing directors at Wells Fargo Securities. Prior to Wells Fargo, they founded and led A.G. Edwards' Energy Investment Banking Group. Also joining the team is Kjell Lundal, vice president. Lundal worked with Goot and Murphy at A.G. Edwards and was most recently with the investment banking group at National City Capital Markets. Since 2000, Baird has advised on more than 330 M&A transactions representing more than $40 billion in transaction value, and has served as lead or co-manager on more than 300 equity offerings raising more than $73 billion.

Hercules Offshore makesmanagement promotions

Hercules Offshore Inc. has appointed Stephen M. Butz, currently serving as vice president, finance and treasurer, as senior vice president, CFO, and treasurer. Butz replaces Lisa W. Rodriguez, who resigned as the company's senior vice president and CFO. She remains with the company as vice president, human resources. Rodriguez joined Hercules as CFO in an interim role in January 2007, and was permanently appointed CFO in March 2007. She has had responsibility for oversight of human resources since 2008. Butz joined Hercules in February 2005 and served as the director of corporate development. He was appointed vice president, finance and treasurer in October 2006. Prior to joining the company, Butz served as a consultant to Noble Corp. He also previously served in a variety of roles at Deutsche Bank, Jefferies & Co. and First Interstate Bank. At the same time, Troy L. Carson, currently serving as vice president and corporate controller, was named chief accounting officer. Carson joined the company in March 2007 and was named principal accounting officer in July 2008.

Pace Global adds LNG exec to Houston office

MetouriPace Global welcomes back Bader Metouri as vice president, LNG services. Metouri, who will be located in Pace Global's Houston office, has over 30 years of engineering, financial, management, and business experience. Prior to joining Pace Global, Metouri held senior positions with Qatar Petroleum, Oman Oil Co., Sonatrach, and Transworld Oil. Metouri will be involved in energy infrastructure development, due diligence, engineering services, project structuring, and energy marketing and development strategies.

Seahawk Drilling shuffles senior management

Seahawk Drilling Inc. has named James R. "Jim" Easter as senior vice president and CFO. Easter served as vice president - corporate development and strategic planning at McDermott International Inc. from 2006 to 2008, and prior to that was vice president - finance and treasurer at McDermott. Easter has over 25 years of corporate level management experience. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor's degree and later received his MBA from Thunderbird, The American Graduate School of International Management. As announced earlier, Steve Manz, who has served as senior vice president and CFO of Seahawk since its spin off from Pride International Inc. in 2009, has retired from the company. Robert E. Moore has joined the company as vice president, corporate development and planning. Moore spent 25 years at Halliburton Co. Recently, he was vice president - project development for International Oil Trading Co. He earned a BBA and an MBA from Baylor University.

MGA hires oil analyst John van Schaik

van SchaikNew York-based Medley Global Advisors (MGA), a macro-policy intelligence service for institutional investors, has hired John van Schaik as an oil analyst to join its expanding energy group. van Schaik joins MGA after 10 years with the Energy Intelligence Group, where he directed OPEC and oil market coverage as New York Bureau Chief. Prior to EIG, van Schaik covered politics, commodities, and finance from Moscow, Johannesburg, and the Netherlands.

Dyck promoted to president, COO of Ivanhoe Energy

David Dyck has been promoted to president and COO of Ivanhoe Energy Inc. Dyck joined the company in October 2009 as president and CEO of Ivanhoe Energy Canada to spearhead the Tamarack Project and other heavy-oil growth initiatives in Western Canada. He was subsequently appointed executive vice president, capital markets of Ivanhoe Energy Inc. Prior to joining Ivanhoe, Dyck was executive director and CEO of LeaRidge Capital. Dyck brings over 25 years of experience in the oil and gas sector in management, finance and business development, with specific experience in heavy oil and management of large projects.

CIT taps Polsky chief risk officer, Roemer chief auditor

CIT Group Inc. has appointed Lisa K. Polsky as chief risk officer. She most recently served at Jane Street Capital, a quantitative proprietary trading firm. She joined Jane Street from Duff Capital Advisors where she was a partner and head of Risk & Investment Solutions. Previously, she founded a consulting firm and worked at Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. and Morgan Stanley. The company has also named Michael E. Roemer executive vice president, internal audit. Previously, Roemer was senior vice president and director of internal audit at American International Group. Prior to AIG, he was senior vice president in the general audit department of JP Morgan Chase.

ConocoPhillips expands senior vice president role

ConocoPhillips's current senior vice president of planning and strategy, Jeff Sheets, will become senior vice president, commercial and planning and strategy. In this expanded role, he will assume responsibilities for global commercial activities in addition to his current planning and strategy responsibilities. Sheets will continue as a member of the ConocoPhillips management committee. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri in Rolla, Mo. and an MBA from the University of Houston.

Connacher welcomes Sametz as president

Connacher Oil & Gas Ltd. has appointed Peter Sametz as president. He will continue his role as COO. Richard A. Gusella will assume the position of chairman and will continue as CEO. Sametz has been with the company for over five years, most recently as executive vice president and COO. He has directed the development of the company's conventional assets in Western Canada and its refining operations in Great Falls, Montana. Gusella has been president and CEO since 2001. He plans to retire and discharge executive responsibility by May, 2014 when he reaches the age of 70.

Land, legal duties to besplit after Cabot VP retires

J. Scott Arnold has elected to retire from Cabot Oil & Gas effective September 1, 2010. He joined the company in 1983 as a corporate attorney. Since then Arnold has held positions of increasing responsibility in the land and legal departments. Upon his retirement, land and legal duties will be divided into two separate functions. Kevin Cunningham, associate general counsel, will replace Arnold in the general counsel role. Cunningham holds a JD from the University of Texas and has spent the vast majority of his career working in the energy law departments of peers. Todd Liebl will replace Arnold in the land department role as the company-wide director, land. Liebl joined the company in 2008 as regional land manager — Gulf Coast after holding positions of increasing responsibility in the land departments of Anadarko Petroleum and Chesapeake Energy.

Rubin joins Gardere as Houston corporate partner

Steven D. Rubin has joined Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP as a partner in the Houston office. Rubin, who joins the Corporate Practice Group, represents private equity clients, handling mergers and acquisitions and securities transactions. His clients include those in the energy, healthcare, telecom and financial services industries. He also has experience in cross'border transactions, particularly for Mexican issuers. Rubin joins Gardere from the Houston office of King & Spalding. He is a graduate of Brown University and received his law degree from Columbia University School of Law.

Ferrante joins Houstonoffice of Mayer Brown

Mayer Brown, a global law firm, has added Pablo Ferrante to the Houston office as a partner in the Corporate & Securities practice. He previously served as a partner at Thompson & Knight. With more than 10 years of legal experience, Pablo advises clients in structuring, negotiating and documenting global corporate and energy transactions, with a focus on Latin America. He has extensive experience representing oil and gas companies on domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, exploration, drilling and production contracts, development projects and a variety of agreements. He earned his LLM from Northwestern University School of Law and a JD from Universidad Católica Argentina.

Crimson Exploration names Isaac senior VP

Crimson Exploration Inc. has named Carl Isaac senior vice president of operations. Isaac has more than 20 years of international and domestic experience in the oil and gas industry with previous senior management roles in engineering, operations and risk management. He was most recently executive vice president of Beryl Resources. Prior, Isaac served in operations management roles at Equitable Production, Westport Resources, Kerr McGee and Enduring Resources. He received his bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University.
