A group led by Chevron Canada Ltd. has spud the Lona 0-55 exploratory well in Atlantic Canada’s frontier Orphan basin.

HOUSTON, May 11
– A group led by Chevron Canada Ltd. has spud the Lona 0-55 exploratory well in Atlantic Canada’s frontier Orphan basin.

The Stena Caron drillship is to drill the well to an undisclosed depth in 8,530 ft of water, a record water depth for eastern Canada. The drillsite is 275 miles northeast of St. John’s (see map, OGJ, Aug. 8, 2005, p. 32).

Other participants in the Lona well are Shell Canada Energy, ExxonMobil Canada Ltd., and Imperial Oil Resources Ventures Ltd.
