HOUSTON, Aug. 2
– ExxonMobil Corp. said it has made another gas discovery with its third well in the Sandakan basin in the Sulu Sea off the southwestern Philippines.

No details were available on the Palendag-1 well in Service Contract 56. The well is in a record 6,362 ft of water east of Borneo Island (OGJ Online, June 9, 2010).

The two earlier wells are Dabakan-1, drilled to more than 16,000 ft, and Banduria-1, drilled to 13,534 ft, between October 2009 and February 2010. Those two wells, 22 miles apart, are discoveries of unspecified magnitude.

ExxonMobil’s Philippine subsidiary has a 50% participating interest in SC 56. Other interest holders are Mitra Energy (Philippines SC-56) Ltd. and BHP Billiton Petroleum (International Exploration) Pty. Ltd. each 25%.
